I just wrote an article called Buying a House - 5 Steps to Help with the Search. My intentions in the article were to outline other alternatives to using a Real Estate agent when searching for a home. Some of these alternatives include Word of Mouth, Real Estate Magazines, Newspapers, Internet, For Sale Signs, and New Development Areas.

When in fact my real intentions are to drive targeted traffic to my site. I have found and read countless websites that stress articles and original good quality content as being the key to gaining organic sustainable target driven traffic. I decided awhile back that I would combine article writing with posting on my blog to see how effective it would be. The first thing I don’t do, is post my articles on my blog, even though these articles are all authored by me I want my site to have all original content. I provide a RSS feed on my sidebar to all my articles so my readers have the option of reading what I have wrote. My site hasn’t been around long enough to really evaluate the site traffic I am getting, but so far I am seeing about 30% of my traffic coming from my article submissions.

I submit my articles to ezines and article directories so they can be distributed among online blogs, newsletters and ezines. There are a few advantages to this:

1) I am able to fill out a resource box adding a URL that links back to my site. This link allows visitors to find my site from the article I wrote.

2) I gain valuable links to my Blog from related websites. 90% of the publishers of my articles are sites related to real estate.

3) My website becomes more credible, if my articles are being published all over the web. It is a lot easier to take recommendations and at the very least consider what I have to say.

4) It’s a form of viral marketing, the more publishers that pick up and publish your work, the more links are distributed throughout the WWW, the more people will find your site.

I’m sure there are a lot more reasons to write and publish articles. I think its a great genuine way to gain credibility and targeted traffic to your website. The funny thing about writing articles is it seems like such a daunting task, and sometimes it is, but the benefits of a great article are immeasurable.

I’ve done some similar marketing through free article sites. It seems to work with attracting new readers and (hopefully) some new income!

I use this technique as well. However, these days Articles I submit to ezines I don’t duplicate on my own blog.
