The Comment Use it Wisely
Aug 13th, 2007 by Dan Standeven
I’ve been blogging for about 2 months now and I really enjoy it, and I really appreciate everyone’s comments. I think having a venue to communicate with your readers is really important and I appreciate everyone who has contributed to my site.

That being said, I think some people who leave comments leave their brains at home..
Hence the following comment was left on a post I put up a few days ago called
Calgary Alberta City Statistics
“Check your stats bud. I live here in calgary on old banff coach road. Some of your stats are completely wrong, even if they did come from a legit source.” by Homer
Now I’m not saying I don’t want negative comments, actually I do, I think negative comments have a lot of value. I also believe receiving negative comments means at the very least you have stirred something up in somebody.
The problem I have with Homer’s comment is, where are the sources, where is the reason, there is no reason for anyone to believe him. I put in all sources for my stats and quantified anything I had done to display these results. It’s like telling me my site sucks, but not saying why, or telling me my content is terrible but not giving me an example.
Please Please, if your going to write something that is not thought out and catches my attention I’m going to blast you. But if you decide to blast me and it’s well thought out I will probably post about it.
Oh and By the Way Homer, I’m still waiting for that source BUD!!

Negative comments usually mean you are doing something right. I rejoiced when I got my first one! And come to find out, the poster wrote an entire post dedicated to me! He thought he was bashing, but he was really sending me more traffic.
Try to be nonchalant about it, and your readers will be able to see though the craziness.
The great thing about the internet is that you can blast people without disclosing your identity! I’d love to know where this guy got his figures. Maybe he should write the City of Calgary and let them know that their annual census was wrong!
