Did I get your attention? Well I guess I’m going to find out based on how much attention this post gets. I was reading a post on a blog called The Real Estate Tomato called What Copyblogger Hasn’t Told You About Writing Real Estate Blog Headlines.

I consider myself a new blogger with a lot to learn still, so today I was looking back at some of the posts I originally had done for my blog and noticed that they were all very short in length. I realized that getting my point across in 100 words wasn’t working and to be honest with you the quality of my early posts is a bit questionable.

I’m not sure if many of you know this but I am a techy guy with an interest in Real Estate, hence the blog. But prior to this I didn’t really do any writing just a few articles here and there to try and promote my site, so I have tried to hone my skills over the past few months. That being said by no means am I an expert writer but I like to think I pass on information someone can use.

However one thing I really lack are killer titles and headlines for my posts. It has always been something I slap on afterwards so I can post to my blog. I know titles are key and generally drive a lot of or most of the traffic to websites. As part of my writing learning curve I have trouble summing up what I’m writing in 5 words or less and for that matter coming up with those perfect 5 words is very difficult.

Anyways to get back on topic I really like this post and blog for that matter, a great explanation of how to put headlines together for your posts.

What I found really great about this post was the examples that were provided. So many times you find some great information but no guidance on how to use it. For example Jim provides samples of good and bad headlines

“The Bad: Friends Don’t Let Friends Pay 6%”
“The Good: Friends Don’t Let Friends Pay 6% In Real Estate Commissions”

I also like how Jim points out the key information in an easy to read format, no filtering through countless paragraphs to find what you want.

“Call To Action - What am I going to take away from this article? Don’t hide it in the body.”

“Improve on something
Teach something
Overcome something
Uncover something
-Just offer something”

Really it can’t be presented any easier than that.

I must say great post Jim, I hope to use your information to create killer headlines.
