So You Want to Be a Real Estate Agent?

Well I don’t want to dash anybody’s dreams of being rich and successful, I just want to point out what most Realtors and brokers won’t tell you before you make the plunge.
- You spend approximately $5,000 to get started, after you take the necessary education courses, pay the startup fees, and become licensed.
- How about the monthly fees paid to your broker, which range from $1000 a month to a percentage of what you make, as well as any monthly fees paid to your local Real Estate Board.
- You have to find a job everyday; you are always being interviewed, always in work mode, and are always scrutinized for your behavior.
- You work for yourself, so all income is reliant on you, not the company you work for
- You must expect to make little or very little money in your first couple years, and already have enough put away to survive through these lean years.
- You work 24 hours a day, you don’t get to see your family, and you don’t get weekends off.
- You have to buy everything related to your business, business cards, signs, stickers, and flyers, the whole works.
- You won’t see your friends anymore.
- You instantly are perceived as a crook.
- No matter what you do, the perception from your clients is you aren’t doing your job, or you get paid too much.
- Nobody really thinks you have a real job or that your job is that difficult.
- You have to deal with all types of people good and bad.
- You inevitably have to fix everyone’s problems even if it has nothing to do with the sale of their home.
- You can get sued for damn near anything and everything.
- Holiday’s haha good luck.
There are some positives to being a real estate agent, they just aren’t as fun to talk about and to be honest if you aren’t the right person to do this job, there aren’t many.
