I was searching through a forum at a website I browse every month or so called StyleatHome.com and found a great forum topic where the moderator asked the question

“Do you have a great get-organized-and-stay-organized tip? Share it with us here!”

I’ve always had this problem, staying clean and organized, so here are some of the replies listed by the forum members and a few that I have thrown in.

Organize

1) Put Everything Back Where You Found It: This makes sense, everything has a place and if it doesn’t then find a place for it. Put it away, hang it up, stick in the laundry basket, all of these simple things are great starter steps to getting organized.

2) Tackle 1 Thing At A Time: Yeah this is actually a great piece of advice. When you look at anything as a whole, it just becomes this huge never ending project. Cut it down into pieces take 1 piece at a time and organize it. Soon all those small pieces make up the entire puzzle.

3) Lists and More Lists: Creating 1 list that has your to-dos or goals for the day is a great way to get organized. As long as you don’t have multiple lists and sticky notes to the point where you need an organization system to keep track of them.

4) Have an Organized Friend Help You: We all have those friends or family members that are organized clean freaks. Invite them over and ask them to help, they love doing this kind of stuff. Make sure you are involved in the process, you never know what could go missing if your not paying attention.

5) If You Buy Something New, Get Rid of Something Old: This one might be a bit tougher to put into action, although I think it’s a great idea. We all have too much stuff, why not get rid of something that has been in your closet forever, this way you will always have room for all that new stuff.

6) If You Haven’t Used it in a Year, Throw it Out: We have all heard this one before, it’s easier said than done, because inevitably 2 days after you throw something out, your going to need it. Well you know what, you only need it because you remembered you had it. This is something I do every year or two, go through all my stuff and get rid of boxes and boxes of things I don’t need anymore.

7) Repetition: The more often you get used to being organized the more likely you will stay organized. If this seems like a tough task, set a schedule on the calendar of 30 mins a day just to specifically work on tasks that don’t get looked after. You will be surprised how quickly you will get things done.

8 ) Do it Now, Don’t Wait Till Tomorrow: Tomorrow never comes we all know that, and then 6 months down the road, we are still telling ourselves that we should really put those boxes away or file that mail in the filing cabinet. The earlier you jump on it, the quicker it gets done, and the better you’ll feel about it.

9) Clean once and Maintain: The easiest way to stay organized is to get organized and keep it that way. Don’t let things get out of control, stay on top of it and you won’t have to worry about it anymore

10) HAVE LESS STUFF: Pretty sell explanatory.

I must say I hope to follow my own advice, maybe I will become more organized. We will see. Maybe in 6 months someone can ask me how organized I have become. I think I am more about writing about it than actually doing it.
