Neon Light Signs

We read from many literature pertaining to shooting landscapes at night. Things like a sturdy tripod, low ISO, small aperture, etc are inseparable for night landscape photography.
Many photographers told me that they prefer shooting cities at night. That will allow them to capture the beautiful urban lights. Not to forget light trails from moving vehicles in a busy traffic. Who will like to miss out the eye-catching neon-lit signs?
These will surely produce beautiful and attractive photographs which can very likely impress your viewers. The question is how do you differentiate yourself, if every photographer is doing and shooting the same thing?
You can consider taking night photography from a different perspective. Not necessary you will always have to include a range of buildings in the cityscape, or to have a foreground in your frame.
Why not having a longer lens to capture tighter shots? Instead of framing a series of buildings, try zooming into a particular section of the building which emits bright and beautiful lights. Such shots can be abstract and you can trigger your viewers' curiosity.
If there is a river or a puddle of water in front of the buildings, make good use of it. Why not try shooting the reflections, capturing the lights from the buildings? Once again, you can just shoot a portion of the buildings to make your photographs unique!
I am sure your photographs will even be more attractive after rain. Make good use of raindrops on metallic surfaces or window glasses, to produce random, abstract and eye-catching photographs.
Instead of shooting light trails of cars either from ground level or on overhead bridges, try capturing light trails of double decker bus. I am sure the photographs will be even more amazing!

Neon Lights And Black And White Photography?
Im In An Intro To Photography Class And For Our Last Project I'm Thinking About Taking Photos Of Old Motels With The Neon Light Signs, Does Anyone Have Any Tips About Taking Photos Of Neon Lights With Black And White Film? Or Does Anyone Have Any Other Project Ideas Consisting Of Lights?
You will have to do a test using your preferred film. Using a tripod, shoot exposures starting at 3 stops under exposed from what your camera suggests. Then in 1/3 stop increments make exposures at each value and then shoot a few over exposed shots as well.
What this will give you is the perfect exposure for your needs that gives some detail in the shadow area, yet does not overexpose the lights. Use a smaller f/stop (f/8 to f/16 would be a good range) and just adjust your shutter speed.
Once you have viewed your contacts and made a print of the two or three you think are best, then you can go back out and shoot more old hotels and motels with neon lights and have good exposures for them all.
In your notes you will probably state that to get the best exposure for signage is to under expose ... 1-1/3rd stop or what ever you find is the best for your camera, film and lighting circumstances.

Noble Gases And Creation Of Neon Signs
If you had ever thought what was the specialty of noble gases being use in neon lights and why not other gases… here we have the answer for you.
It all started during the late 1800's. Many physicists and mainly Sir William Crookes began their experimentation to observer and analyze what radiations are produced in evacuated tubes in which a small amount of elemental gases were let in, during which an arc was struck between electrodes inside the evacuated tube containing a little amount of elemental gas. Surprisingly the physicists observed that a lot of wide-ranging colored effects came out depending on what gases were introduced. Only after 1910 the first proper functional application of elucidating signs became came into existence. The French Physicist, Claude Georges invented the first neon light and chose to take neon as the filling. The important thing in this process to note is that following right pressure and voltage is responsible for the resultant deep red color glow
Now here we have to see how noble gases were used in the creation of neon lights and Neon Sign boards. The two most general and most commonly found plasma devices used is the fluorescent light bulb and the almost similar neon sign. In view of the fact that their growth in the 1940's, fluorescent bulbs have become the lighting fixture of alternative in commercial centers, factories, schools and many other places as they are starting to be establish more extensively in residence areas as well.
In most of the cases, the light produced from the fluorescent light bulbs look white. Guess how this White Color comes? This white color is a mixture of all of the colors of the visible spectrum, just like how it works with sunlight.
When it comes to the fluorescent bulb, the matter that is in fact responsible for the glowing is a white colored powder that is applied to the inner wall of the bulb's long glass tube. This powder is nothing but the phosphor. Even though it may not have any phosphorus in it, it gives the white light we see through a process which is known as fluorescence. This is the process which is the foundation of the given name as the 'fluorescent' light bulbs.
The process of fluorescence takes place when an atom or molecule attracts and keeps inside the energy from some the source, for example a photon of light, or a collision with another atom. Followed by this an amount of energy is on the loose and discharged in the form of light in two or more successive steps of reaction.

Beer Pong table in the making?
I am planning on creating a sick table for the use of under black lights......... But i dont know if i just buy neon paint or do i have to buy special holographic paint, or glitter or what not? Has any1 tried this or does the polyurethane coat ruin it?
P.S. if any one has any sick table ideas throw em at me.....
also how much would an 8x2 ft piece of Plexiglas cost??
A beer pong table, that sounds interesting.
You said a sick table, does this mean a cool, trendy table or does sick table mean when you have had to much beer you can go to the beer pong table and throw up on it, cause it really would pong after that.
Ha Ha Ha
..............Cheers.................
