The Major Difference Between Visa, Mastercard and American Express
The Major Difference Between Visa, MasterCard And American Express
American Express Credit Cards made their presence known in the financial jungle in the early 50’s. Visa and Master Card also came into the scene around the same time and served the same market segment – Credit. There soon developed their own model for serving the market and established themselves as leaders in the Credit Card providers the world over.
While American Express or AMEX as it is popularly known in the European countries has grown to be the most widely recognizable of credit cards and is a name that describes exclusivity in a way. However, not many credit card holders throughout the world know the difference in the three major players in the credit card industry. Actually there is no difference between Visa and Master Card, the main difference is between these two players and American Express credit cards – The major difference is in their style of operation.
Visa Card and Master Card are primarily methods of making payments. These are tow financial companies that have grown into institutions by themselves. They negotiate and setup payment systems at different merchant locations across the globe but never issue any credit cards themselves. Visa and Master Card set up business partnerships with merchant establishments where customers can use the credit cards and banks or financial institutions that actually issue credit cards to their customers. Visa and Master Card make the payment to the merchant establishments where the cards are used and charge the company that actually issued the card to the customer a fee for making the up front payment on their behalf. The card issuing company on its part charges a fee for issuing the card, an annual rental for the card and an interest on the amount of payment paid out to the merchant establishment.
These credit card companies are billed by Visa or Master Card and they in turn bill the Card Holder. The holder never pays any cash directly to Visa or Master Card.
American Express is different in that they have an entirely private setup. They issue their credit cards under their own name and logo. They also directly make payments to merchant establishments where the card is used. American Express do their own marketing of services to merchant establishments and card customers. The other difference is that American Express has a limited usage through the world while Visa and Master Card are accepted at over 20 million merchant establishments in over a hundred and fifty countries.

Through credit counseling, you can become current on your accounts, lower your interest rates, and even have a positive influence on your credit report. A credit counselor can help you pay off your debt and balance your budget so that you can make your monthly credit card payments.

How long does it take for my credit card payment to be processed?
Hello. I made a payment by credit card for a web hosting service. It didn't return any error, and I even received my confirmation email. However, I cannot use the service yet because it says my order is still being processed. How long does such an order usually take to be processed? Thanks!.
I'm actually willing to bet that the portion of your order that is being processed is the actual inception of your service rather than the transaction itself.
Depending on what services you purchased, there are certain things that the company you paid for hosting services has to do to get your URL up for you to start uploading to. The transaction itself should have been authorized immediately even if it was not settled.
When a purchase is made with a credit card it is usually immediately authorized but is not settled until the end of the business day. Most of the purchases that you make are not fully processed until well after you walk out of the door with your goods or services.
The bad news here is that you are at the mercy of the company you are dealing with as to when you can use your services. For nearly three decades, the EFTPOS (electronic fund transfer point-of-sale) has been popular among Australians. They use EFTPOS to pay for purchases at various retailers, or to make deposit and withdrawal transactions at participating Australia Post instead of their bank branch. You are assured your EFTPOS card can be swiped at virtually all terminals that are also used for Credit Cards. Everywhere in Australia, your EFTPOS is perfectly useful. Unfortunately, acceptability is limited only to Australia. This is the reason EFTPOS is having a difficult time competing with the flood of bank debit cards, particularly the market-leading Visa debit cards. Debit cards can do virtually everything that EFTPOS can do for you — but on a much wider scale. Where EFTPOS is accepted only in Australia, Visa debit is acceptable in the more than 24 million merchants and other outlets that also Accept Credit cards across the globe. If you wish to withdraw cash, you can use Visa debit at about one million ATM machines located in over 150 countries. There simply are more over the counter outlets that accept Visa debit than EFTPOS. On the other hand, while the Australian Consumers Association has acknowledged the huge inroads made by debit cards they also believe EFTPOS should not be phased out. While it's less accepted overseas or online there are some advantages to EFTPOS. There are differences in the charging of the interbank transaction fee (called the 'interchange' fee). When you use your EFTPOS, your bank (or authorised deposit-taking institution or simply ADI) pay this interchange fee to the bank of the merchant. It's the merchant's bank that earns money on your transaction. But when you use your Visa Debit Card or other debit cards, things turn out differently. Your bank is able to charge the merchant
s bank a transaction fee and therefore make money from your transactions. It is said that the EFTPOS system charges lower transaction fees and monthly account maintenance fees to the consumer than the debit card system. It may not seem like a big difference but if your making many transactions each month it can really add up. On the other hand, Visa debit cards offer another advantage not found in EFTPOS. You enjoy purchase protection, card replacement in case of loss, and other security features normally associated with credit cards.

I use the Agora free shopping cart, and Manual Credit Card option. This is a much cheaper approach. If you are just starting out, and have a manual and cheapest credit card system, then go this way. You see, your website won't be breaking sales records at first.
