This is my personal plea as a writer in support of the little words in our language -- prepositions. Don't leave them out, please. They may be little words, but they have a big impact on our intelligent use of the English language, both spoken and written.
I just spent some time roaming around the Internet looking for discussions about prepositions, those little words in the English language (well, all languages use them in some form, really) that indicate relationships between words and phrases. I'll bet you know the words I mean: "at," "by," "of," "about," "from," "for," "with," etc.
Most native English speakers have few problems understanding prepositions and preposition usage. Native speakers of the language begin to understand from an early age how different words relate to each other, so they quickly learn to pick the correct preposition to indicate those word or phrase relationships. But I recently ran onto several forums for English as a Second Language (ESL) students. If you look around such forums, you may be amazed at how difficult it is for non-native speakers of English to get preposition usage right.
But, really, how much does it matter whether you're off just a little on the correct preposition. They're "little" words, mostly, so how much difference can the right or wrong preposition make? Let me give you a simple exercise to illustrate how important it can be to use the correct preposition in a phrase. Take the phrase "land for sale Branson" as an example. (I live near Branson, Missouri, that country music mecca which now vies with Nashville, Tennessee, as the cultural universe of country music. I recently saw this phrase used exactly as quoted in an online ad about Branson.)
As you can see, some preposition is needed between "sale" and "Branson." Think about what prepositions might be used in the phrase. What would you use, and how much difference would Your Choice make to the meaning of the ad? Let's look at some examples of how using different prepositions would change the ad:
"Land for sale IN Branson" -- Clearly, the land being sold is located in the city of Branson if you use this preposition.
"Land for sale BY Branson" -- Maybe the land is in Branson; maybe it's not. It appears to be owned by the city of Branson and the city wants to sell it. Or -- does the "by" mean "along side, beside, near" Branson and refer simply to the location of the land?
"Land for sale FROM Branson" -- This preposition is really ambiguous, isn't it? Does this mean the land is owned by someone who lives in Branson and wants to sell it, but the land itself is nowhere near Branson? It might.
The lesson we learn from the Branson ad appears to be clear: Be careful to use prepositions when you need them, and please be careful to use the correct preposition when you use one. Oh, and if you're wondering, I never clicked on that ad so I have no idea which preposition usage is correct regarding that Branson Land Sale.
As for any ESL students out there reading this -- good luck, my friends. English can be a tricky and mysterious language to learn. Even the seemingly little words like prepositions can have a big impact on meaning. But I'm sure you're learning that, aren't you?

How do you get information about missouri pacific rail road to get info about land useage?
Well..you don't since MoPac no longer exists..
You may wish to try the Union Pacific railroad which gobbled MoPac up...I assume you got MoPac's name off an old outdated land map...
I've seen some land maps in CT that still say New Haven RR or Penn Central - some even the more recent but still pretty much extinct Conrail.... All are fallen flags today..

Branson Missouri

Actually, a lot of things are new in Branson for 2010. Let's talk about what's fresh in Branson.
During April and May, you can See the World in Branson. This is a new annual event that showcases all the food, entertainment and attractions that have made Branson such a popular destination for visitors from around the globe. In fact, Branson really is an international event, with something Chinese, Japanese, Samoan, Russian and, of course, American to enjoy.
At the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre, you can see Andy perform during the fall and at Christmas. But there's more. Bill Haley's Original Comets will pair up with Paul Revere and the Raiders for a show.
The Dutton Family Theatre will play host to The Cat's Pajamas, a voice quartet that is reputed to have revolutionized a capella performance. They've performed around the world. Tenor George Dyer will also have a new show. Bluegrass music will come to the Dutton with the Redhead Express.
More than 50 performers will show their martial arts skills at The Legend of Kung Fu. The show combines martial arts and acrobatics. The group has already appeared more than 3,000 times in China, Canada, England and Australia. The show is set for May at The White House Theatre.
Over at the Oak Ridge Boys Theatre, you'll find the Gatlin Brothers and Debby Boone. Neal McCoy and Buck Trent will be at the Clay Cooper Theatre.
Yakov's Moscow Circus will kick off at Yakov's Theatre, where Andrei the Clown, Irina Markova and her dogs and cats, Marina the Ballerina and Anthony Soumiatin, the national unicycling champion, will act out their variety of silliness. The exciting acrobatics of Cirque Montage will come to the Starlite Theatre.
Silver Dollar City will unveil its new Tom and Huck's Riverblast raft ride. The Welk Resort will introduce The Splash-A-Torium, a water attraction. The Branson Scenic Railway will feature The Polar Express for kids at Christmastime.
At the White River Comedy Club, look for stand-up comics. They're not just amateurs, either. Some have appeared on David Letterman, Jay Leno, HBO, Showtime, Comedy Central and Last Comic Standing.
There's more to list and more to come. It looks like a great year in and around Branson. It's time to make your reservations!
The Lodges at Table Rock stands out for its family-friendly accommodations. Make Branson and a Table Rock lodge your destination in 2010.
What are some good outdoor locations (parks etc) near Branson Missouri for a small wedding?
My fiance and I are working from a small budget and planning a simple backyard kind of ceremony next year and are looking for good locations in and around the Branson Missouri or Harrison Arkansas area. We're thinking something like a state park or lake setting. Can anyone give us some ideas?
Tyler Bend State Park is one of the most beautiful places I can think of in that area.
Either of these links should get you more info.

City of Fountains
Kansas City is a sprawling metropolitan area at the convolution of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers, and is comprised of the cities of Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas, as well as a number of smaller, interconnected, incorporated cities. Kansas City, Missouri is the major element in this metro area. The city occupies parts of four Missouri counties; Jackson, Clay, Cass and Platte, also Johnson County, Kansas. A village was established on this site in 1838 because of the river convergence and crossings. It grew quickly into a trading center for fur trappers who came down the rivers from the mountains and the trading companies who supplied them with the necessities to carry on their trapping excursions into the great mountains to the west. As the Great West of the US began to attract immigrants, Jackson County became the starting point for the famous trails leading to California, Oregon, New Mexico and the rest of the west. The California Trail, Oregon Trail and Santa Fe Trail all began in the area between Kansas City and St. Joseph, MO. At present, the Kansas City Metropolitan area has a population of more than two million. The area is served by a number of Interstate Highways, rail and a very large airport north of the metro area. Known as the "City of Fountains," second only to Rome, Italy for the number of water displays, KCMO (as it is commonly known) is a city of more than 240 "neighborhoods," representing many ethnic and national groups. The Irish are well represented with more than 250,000 Irish-American residents. KCMO also has more than 132 miles of wide boulevards. The climate is varied, with cold, freezing winters and hot, humid summers . . . and everything in between. It is also located in the center of what the weathermen call, "Tornado Alley," because the atmospheric conditions during the summer season often generate huge rain storms that occasionally produce "twisters." Major corporations have headquartered in the metro area, including: Sprint-Nextel (wireless telephone), H & R Block (tax accounting services) and Hallmark (greeting cards). The Kansas City Board of Trade handles more hard-red-winter wheat, the primary ingredient in bread, than any other commodity exchange in the world. KCMO was established a major shipping point for the beef cattle raised in the American West in the mid-1800s and still is to this day. Famous for "Kansas City Strip Steaks" and other fine cuts of beef, the area abounds in restaurants featuring everything from steaks to barbeque. The KC stockyards are still home to one of the best of the best, The Golden Ox Steakhouse. Kansas City Style Barbeque is renowned. The many great purveyors of barbeque include: Arthur Bryant's, Gates & Sons and Firoella's Jack Stack. In KC barbeque, the sauce is as important as the meat. Most were developed from tomato-base, then sweetened with molasses. The recipes are closely held secrets. One sauce that has achieved worldwide distribution is "KC Masterpiece." The Sports activities in the area include major league baseball, football and soccer: The KC Royals baseball tem, KC Chiefs NFL football team and the KC Wizards soccer club, play their home games in the Sports Complex on the east side of the city. The Performing Arts are well represented by: The KC Symphony, Lyric Opera, Ballet and an annual Jazz Festival. I live in the missouri and have tomato plants that have little red bugs on them that DO NOT come off. HELP??
These little red bugs do not come off and we have tried every kind of tomato plant spray out there. I don't know how to get them off because they are eating hole into my leaves and tomatoes.
They are called potato aphids and they will come off if you use insecticidal soap or thyme oil. If you know somewhere to purchase ladybugs, they will get rid of them for you.
