When Surveillance Cameras Enter Your Bedroom and Your Intimate Affairs
Surveillance cameras have their good uses. Criminals have been caught and jailed based on undeniable video evidence, cheating spouses have been captured on film and forced to pay greater alimonies and child support for their ex-partners, and cops have been suspended for sexual harassment and physical mishandling of visitors and suspects alike. Just some of the few cases you read about that can convince you surveillance is good.
However, what do you do when surveillance cameras intrude upon your most private of private moments? How do you cope when intimate affairs are recorded in video and broadcasted for the entire Internet world to see?
How It Can Happen
Generally, surveillance cameras are used for Home Security and public security. You can install small and portable cameras in your house while the government sets up a surveillance system in your neighborhood ostensibly to deter crime and monitor traffic.
Imagine this scenario: Your partner transferred the cameras to your bedroom because he wants to videotape your bedroom shenanigans without your knowledge. After your bitter separation, he uploads the video over the Internet and it becomes a hit.
Or this: In the interest of adding spice to your relationship, you both agreed to place some of the wireless surveillance cameras inside your bedroom. One messy divorce later, you are faced with an Internet video showing you and your despised ex-partner in compromising positions.
Or this: Video surveillance operators across the street intersection videotaped your intimate moments for voyeuristic purposes. The same perverted individuals broadcasted the footage over the web.
In whatever way your lady parts came to be plastered all over the Internet, you must deal with the fall-out of other people's perversions.
How to Prevent and to Cope
Of course, prevention is always better than the cure. If possible, never allow your partner to videotape your intimate bedroom encounters; never install surveillance cameras in your bedroom no matter what you do; never perform live shows where your privacy can be compromised unless you are on a deserted island; never leave the windows open in any way, either in terms of locking it and closing the drapes; and never let your private videotapes lying anywhere.
However, unfortunate scenarios such as the abovementioned do happen. How to cope boils down to:
* Doing something concrete about your plight - filing complaints and lawsuits is a good first step. You can also seek professional help and your family's support.
* Forgetting about the past and not worrying about the future. You should take each day as it comes and live for the joys of the present. Learn to appreciate the small things in your life now - your ex-partner is paying you sums of money for alimony and for his bastardization of your relationship, your perverted voyeurs of local public officials are in jail, and you are alive.
* Moving on. If this means that you have to do something drastic like changing your place of residence or something mild like changing your hairstyle, then go for it. Just always remember that life must go on, you were a victim but you cannot be a victim forever, and that it is other people's problems if they see you as anything less than the worthy person that you are.
In the end, your life should never be ruled by one mistake brought by man's inappropriate use of surveillance cameras. Life is yours, take it!

When did they start putting surveillance camera everywhere in North America?
I am wondering when did Canada and America start putting surveillance camera everywhere on the streets? Did it start in the 80s,90s or 20s?
I personally don't like this idea.
I like the old 70s-90s times so much.
It picked up in earnest after 9/11, in public areas anyway. Private industry and common areas of apartments, condos, hotels started a bit after that. Places like 7-11, etc started back in the late 70's early 80's.

Cctv Security Cameras - do they work
Video surveillance devices have over the years captured some of the most defining moments in history. Whether it was the last few steps taken by the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger, or the haunting images of the 9/11 terrorist boarding their ill fated flights, video has often been the silent witness to both tragedy and triumph. It's role in documenting historical events is beyond reproach.
But is video surveillance an effective tool when it comes to prosecuting criminal activity? There are many different opinions on this questions. Some may point to statistics which indicate that geographical areas with a significant surveillance presence are just as likely to have criminal activity as jurisdictions with less of a presence. Others will argue that a significant CCTV presence will curb criminal behavior and assist the authorities in collecting evidence and prosecuting crimes.
As always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle of both arguments, but weighs more heavily in favor of it's effectiveness in not only solving crimes, but also preventing crime. In fact, the question should really be 'Is CCTV video surveillance an effective crime prevention tool'.
Video surveillance is more about deterrence than it is about evidence collection. Red light cameras do catch drivers in the act, but their role is much more about making drivers think twice before running a red light.
In a published 1991 study, CCTV surveillance in convenience stores showed promising results as a crime prevention tool. A sample of 81 stores were studied for 1 year prior and 1 year after the installation of Cctv Camera surveillance systems. The number of robberies decreased by 53 percent after the first year. This represents the true value of CCTV security systems.
The UK has has more CCTV camera coverage than any other country. A recent study examined the effectiveness of UK Security Cameras as it pertains to crime prevention. The evaluations were carried out in city centers, public housing, public transport and car parks. 11 of 22 of these study cases indicated a reduction in the crime rate. CCTV is clearly an effective deterrence to criminal activity.
Video is also a useful tool for law enforcement agencies, but it must be noted that CCTV recordings cannot make use of audio information - if sound is recorded along with the video, the recording is then considered a wiretap and therefore falls under rules which may require a warrant. This is why police often make use of lip readers when trying to decipher the contents of surveillance video.
CCTV video is often used in police investigations. In Canada, over 70% of all bank robberies are captured by CCTV cameras. Additionally, close to 75% of all commercial crime investigations have made use of CCTV recordings. Commercial CCTV cameras have also been instrumental in helping to find missing persons. The effectiveness of the technology as an investigation tool is therefore also well established.
I believe most people are convinced of the effectiveness of video surveillance and may even feel a certain amount of comfort in knowing that it adds to their sense of personal safety. They understand that their chances of being a victim of crime are reduced when they find themselves in an area monitored with CCTV cameras.
If this is the case, then why is CCTV surveillance so controversial? Upon closer examination, concerns people have with CCTV security cameras tend to pertain to privacy issues as opposed to safety issues.
Many people fear the emergence of a 'Big Brother' society where your every move is recorded. This probably won't happen. The overwhelming majority of CCTV cameras function in a passive fashion, recording events to be played back only in the event of a crime. Because of the considerable storage requirements needed to save video, most footage is only kept for short periods of time.
Because video is not perpetual in nature, it's impact on tracking our daily activities is not sequential enough to warrant concerns over privacy. A bigger threat exist with location aware devices such as GPS trackers and cell phones. Imagine if people could track your every move in Real Time over the web. That is happening today and is a much bigger threat to our privacy.
In conclusion, CCTV surveillance technology is helping us document history in much the same way as books and photos have for thousands of years. Statistics clearly point to the effectiveness of the technology in crime prevention and investigation. It's use will continue to be controversial with privacy advocates and civil libertarians.

Can i have a device to get 4~10 video images from CCTV cameras through one cable?
I'm not sure this is wat you want but I'll list some options.
-video Quads (or in your case a double quad) take 4 camera images and make 1 picture out of them. (with 4, or 8 or 16 little images)
-video Sequencer here you get all your images, after one another in a constant loop (so pic1 for 5 sec, pic 2 for 5 sec, pic3.......)
-net dvr, this would be a device where you attach all your camera's, and switch it over to an TCP cable, you can view the images trough your computer
-buy netcams, then all camera's put the images directly on your intranet, witch is only one cable.
from top to bottom is also from cheap to expensive (the quad and sequencer would cost about the same i think)

CCTV is an important instrument for secure homes and business places. CCTV is the abbreviation of Closed Circuit Television, which is used to monitor certain areas and help to protect it from burglars and thieves. As the name implies, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) is a system in which the circuit is closed and all the elements are directly connected. Directly connected in this context includes systems linked by microwave, infrared beams, etc. This article introduces the main components that can go to make up CCTV systems of varying complexity. Closed circuit video magnification systems are capable of higher levels of magnification and can manipulate the brightness and contrast of the image.
CCTV is the use of video cameras to send out a signal to a specific, small set of monitors. Many stores use CCTV as a theft prevention deterrent. In a number of large industrial factories, CCTV equipment is often used to watch parts of the factory from a control room. Often CCTV allows workers to view areas where the environment is not safe for humans to work. Many factories that deal with hazardous materials installing closed-circuit television in order to keep workers safe. CCTV systems may operate non-stop or only as required to monitor a particular event or during business hours.
It has become essential for CCTV to truly be closed. The use of CCTV continues as a result of the need to meet the terms of data protection laws and human rights. In a wide number of countries, CCTV legislation dictates that many of these surveillance systems must also supply any member of the public, with a legitimate reason, with copies of any recordings.
A closed-circuit television used for surveillance may deter crime by being "a closed circuit" but it is also essential to watch over the public to keep these systems from being used for improper purposes.
Large companies now perform closed-circuit television and video surveillance across a number of platforms. Many times these companies often use securely linked closed-circuit television systems that are connected to a central monitoring and recording facility over the Internet.

Thinking of setting up a home security company that deal in cctv.?
If im installing cctv in peoples homes do i need a SIA cctv licence?? Its not a public place so i dont think i will but not sure.

To install cctv in homes, you do not need any licenses.
a) SIA CCTV license is for cctv operators, those people who watch cctv cameras that cover public places.
b) stick to low voltage systems, e.g. cameras that use 12v
c) If you make any changes to the homes electrical wiring, e,g. making a fused spur, making connections with mains cables or removing or installing wall / light sockets etc.. you will need a qualification called 'Part P' which is related to the 16th edition for electrical wiring
Dont worry about that last point, stick to 12v systems and most cameras and recorders plug directly to the wall socket using a standard plug so no qualifications needed apart from common sense.
